1. About This Policy

Cinelyse is operated by Aurora Lab Ltd, a UK registered limited liability company ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Cinelyse app (the "App").

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

Account details (name, email address) when you register or sign in via a third-party provider such as Google.
Content you create within the App, such as watchlists, ratings, and interactions, which we use to understand and personalise your experience.
Search queries and prompts you submit to the AI recommendation feature.
Subscription status, recorded when you purchase Premium through Google Play (Android) or the Apple App Store (iOS). All payment processing is handled directly by Google or Apple — we do not receive, process, or store any payment or card information.
Device contacts, if you choose to use the Find Friends feature, accessed temporarily and solely to identify other users of the App. Contact data is not stored on our servers or shared with third parties.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

Device and app information (e.g. device type, operating system version, app version), collected as part of operating the App.
App activity data, such as total search count, which we use to personalise your experience and display in-app progress.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

Provide, personalise, and improve the App and its features.
Operate your account and authenticate you securely.
Send service-related communications (e.g. account notices, important updates).
Send marketing communications, including promotional emails and push notifications, where you have opted in to receive them (see Section 11).
Serve advertising within the App.
Monitor performance, fix issues, and prevent abuse.
Comply with legal obligations.

We do not use your data for automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on you.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal data on the following bases: contract performance (to provide the App and process payments), legitimate interests (security and service improvement), consent (where you have opted in, such as for marketing communications, contacts access, or push notifications), and legal obligation.

5. Marketing & Communications

With your consent, we may send you marketing emails and push notifications about new features, content recommendations, and promotions.

You can opt out at any time by:

Unsubscribing via the link in any marketing email.
Disabling push notifications in your device settings or within the App.
Contacting us directly at privacy@cinelyse.com.

Opting out of marketing does not affect service-related communications, which we may continue to send as necessary to operate your account.

6. Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party providers to operate the App, including services for authentication, cloud infrastructure and storage, AI processing (which involves transmitting your search queries to an AI service to generate recommendations), advertising, and push notifications. These providers process data on our behalf under appropriate data protection agreements.

Film and TV metadata is sourced from third-party databases. No personal data is shared with metadata providers.

We may disclose your information where required by law, to protect our rights or users, or in connection with a business transfer.

7. International Data Transfers

Some of our service providers may process data in countries outside the UK and EEA. Where this occurs, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as standard contractual clauses or equivalent transfer mechanisms recognised under applicable law.

8. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App. On account deletion, your data will be deleted or anonymised promptly, except where retention is required by law.

8.1 How to Delete Your Account

You can permanently delete your CINELYSE account and all associated data at any time, directly within the App:

Open the CINELYSE app
Tap the Profile tab
Tap the Edit Profile icon on your profile
Scroll down and tap Delete Account
Confirm the deletion when prompted

Please note: Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. If you are unable to access the App and wish to request deletion by other means, please contact us at privacy@cinelyse.com.

9. Children's Privacy

Cinelyse is not intended for children under 13 (or under 16 where local law requires). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

10. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data. However, no method of transmission over the internet is entirely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Your Rights

Depending on where you are located, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to object to certain processing. You may also withdraw consent at any time where processing is consent-based.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority — if you are a UK customer, you can find out more at the ICO website. If you are based within the EU, you can find out more via your local supervisory authority.
